Document Verification
The patient will upload a copy of their ID/Passport for verification.

Payment & Submission to Doctor
Upon submission of your financial details through the online application, your application will be forwarded to the Doctor of your choice for their recommendation.

Recommendation Issuance
The doctor conducts the evaluation. If the patient is deemed eligible, a prescription will be issued and sent via email. If the patient is not eligible, a notification will be sent via email.

Submission to BMCLA
The information is submitted to the Barbados Medicinal Cannabis Licensing Authority for printing of the Meds card.

The cards can be retrieved at the office of the Barbados Medicinal Cannabis Licensing Authority (BMCLA), Island Therapeutics and Island Naturals.
Get A Prescription
Patients in Barbados can only access medicinal cannabis through a prescription issued by a licensed medical practitioner. This prescription must be filled by a licensed pharmacist, who is legally permitted to dispense medicinal cannabis only upon submission of a valid prescription and a form of identification by the patient or, where applicable, a caregiver.

Yes, but only under strict medical supervision and with parental or guardian consent.
According to the Barbados Medicinal Cannabis Industry Act, 2019 the parent or guardian of a patient who is a minor shall obtain a certificate in writing from a medical practitioner certifying that the use of medicinal cannabis is necessary in the case of that minor, and the parent or guardian shall consent in writing to the use of medicinal cannabis for the treatment of the minor.
The Act also states that a parent or legal guardian of a patient who is a minor shall be deemed to be the caregiver for that minor unless that parent or legal guardian designates another person, or a person is designated by an order of the Court. Any person who is under the age of 18 years shall not be designated as a caregiver.
